If you could meet a historical figure, who would it be and why?

If I could have dinner with any historical figure, I would choose Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi’s nonviolence and adherence to truth have engraved marks on my mind. His life proved that simplicity and moral strength could work wonders, and his ability to inspire millions with his way of life and words is marvellous.
Perhaps making this choice even more remarkable is a personal bond with Gandhi’s legacy. I remember dressing up as Mahatma Gandhi once during a specific cultural program. It was one of the most memorable experiences to be able to capture at least a small amount of his image. Dressing up as him made me reflect deeply on his principles and his incredible impact on the world.
Gandhi’s autobiography, The Story of My Experiments with Truth, is one of my favourite books. It gives an honest insight into his life, struggles, and philosophy. I’ve also tried to practice some of his principles, especially the importance of truth and simplicity. Though these are not always easy to follow, they have brought clarity and purpose to my journey.
If I had the chance to meet him, I would like to ask how he could be firm on his convictions during such chaotic times and counterbalance his problems with leading a movement. His ability to inspire change through peaceful resistance continues to overwhelm me, and I think too often of how his ways can still be applied to modern-day issues.
In a world replete with noise and conflict, Gandhi’s life reminds us that real change proceeds from self-discipline and unflinching commitment to the truth.
