Growing up in 1972, the radio was more than an entertainer; it was a window to another world. Drama and songs without visuals would sound so magical. Every sound was raw emotion, and my imagination would run with the rest. Incomplete information made it all the more engaging, as my mind would fill in the gaps with bright pictures and stories.
After 1980, television began to reshape life in Kerala, with Malayalam channels bringing together families around one screen. The magic of seeing stories enacted was great, but I sometimes missed the intimate and imaginative experience that radio gave me. Television opened new vistas, yet the worlds drawn with sounds alone remain uniquely personal and nostalgic to me.
Those moments taught me the beauty of simplicity and the power of creativity. Even now, I realise how those experiences shaped my ability to connect deeply with emotions and find joy in the unseen.
