Alternative Career Paths: From Starting an NGO to Imagining a Coffee Shop on Mars

What alternative career paths have you considered or are interested in?

I’m working on something that I believe is truly meaningful: starting an NGO in my hometown to support the mental health of senior citizens. Too often, older adults face isolation, loneliness, and mental health challenges that go unnoticed. I aim to create a space where they can connect, share their stories, and participate in activities that help them feel a sense of purpose again. It’s about building a supportive community that values their experiences and contributions.

On the other hand, I also love to imagine something completely different—a coffee shop on Mars! Yes, it may sound far-fetched, but the idea holds meaning, too. It’s not just about the fun of serving “Zero-Gravity Espressos” or “Red Dust Lattes,” but about how even the wildest dreams can symbolise hope and creativity. It reminds me that imagination can fuel passion and purpose, no matter how distant the goal might seem.

Both of these paths, though one is grounded in reality and the other in imagination, are about connection. Whether I’m building a space for older people to feel supported or dreaming of a café in space, the underlying desire to bring people together makes both ideas meaningful.

I’m dedicating myself to the NGO, but I believe that dreams—even imaginative ones—can inspire us to keep pushing forward.
